I discovered Art once I retired from teaching and had the time to pursue it. I registered for classes at the Ottawa School of Art and studied under Robert Hyndman until he retired.
I found that I enjoyed the process of painting with Oils and reliving the memories I had made from our many trips overseas. My photos came to life on the canvas and I was pleased to try different techniques to get the effects I wanted.
Painting to me is a trip down memory lane as I seek to put on canvas images which reflect the landscape, flowers, animals, shorelines and historical sites which we have visited on our bi-yearly trips to Britain. Hiking has brought me close to the landscape and photographs jog the memory of the joy of discovering special places.
The memory is the motivation and the painting is the medium. I do not stick to a particular theme or to a particular style but seek to explore ways of portraying the memories that have stayed with me on canvas in a way that is pleasing to me and hopefully to others.
All my paintings have a story – a personal association with the content portrayed and a memory shared. Guests to my site may recognize a place, relate to a memory and want to enjoy that shared memory through the painting.
