About Janis Fulton:

I have always been creative, but I started painting seriously in 2000 and I work primarily in oils now. Leaving a career in the lab, I did a 3-year interior design course. Since 2000, I have been attending painting classes and workshops. I have participated in art shows since 2002 including Glebe Fine Art Show, West Carleton Expressions of Art, Nepean Fine Art, Manotick Inspirations Art Show and Wall Candy.

Plein air painting is an important part of my work. Working alla prima, I paint plein air and complete smaller works on site. These smaller works are presented or used as studies for larger studio works. I strive to capture the mood of the natural landscape and bring into my studio work the energy and freshness of plein air work.

My work involves going on plein air painting trips in Ontario, Quebec and my family home Nova Scotia. In the studio I work from my studies, sketches and photos. I also enjoy painting still life arrangements.

Lately, I have been focusing on my experiences and studies and creating a series of paintings from the Fundy region of Nova Scotia and painting works from fall trips to the Ottawa Valley and the Kamouraska region of Quebec.
